Innovation for Irish Aquaculture: Short Video Interviews – Part 1
This week learn more about how fish blood samples can be analysed using human health technology, and how light can be used to remove sea lice from salmon.
As the IATiP was unfortunately unable to hold its exciting two-day conference focused on Irish Aquaculture in April 2020, we are bringing all the exciting technologies and innovations to you virtually. Short interview videos of some of the conference speakers are available for you to view whenever it suits you, so that you can learn more about how developments in research can positively affect you and your aquaculture work.
This week, we would like to showcase two of these interviews, and will continue sharing these with you over the coming weeks.
First, we would like to introduce you to Prof. Brian Quinn from the University of West Scotland. Some of you may know Brian already, as he won first prize of the Aquaculture Innovation Forum at Aquaculture Europe 2018 for his fish diagnostics tool. In this interview, he describes how he is using human technology to analyse blood samples of fish to continuously assess its health, without harming the animal. These results are then fed back to the producer via a mobile app to inform husbandry decisions. To find out more, watch the video, by clicking here.
And the second showcase interview is that held with Rory Casey from Atlantic Photonic Solutions. Rory speaks to us about their innovative technology that uses light to remove sea lice from farmed salmon.
