GENIALG invites stakeholders to workshop on seaweed aquaculture in Ireland
The Irish Seaweed Consultancy are hosting a one-day workshop in collaboration with the GENIALG project (www.genialgproject.eu) to assess the socio-environmental benefits of seaweed aquaculture in Ireland at NUI Galway on 21st November 2019 (9am to 4.30pm).
THE CHALLENGE: Seaweed cultivation provides diverse benefits for the aquaculture industry, the environment and society. One major challenge is to understand the socio-environmental benefits from seaweed aquaculture in order to contribute to its sustainable development and management.
WHY THIS WORKSHOP? The diversity of values of nature and its contributions to people’s good quality of life are associated with different cultural and institutional contexts. Workshops and participative processes provide the opportunity to gather different viewpoints around the same topic.
OBJECTIVE OF THE WORKSHOP: To assess the non-material benefits and values of seaweed farming activities in a deliberative and participatory process with local/regional stakeholders. The public is invited to contribute with information on their viewpoints, willingness to pay and perceptions about non-material nature benefits.
